Toy Car Photos: Harry Potter Ford Anglia

I recently encountered this toy car at a local thrift store.  It's a detailed replica of the iconic Ford Anglia—the flying family car that stole hearts in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I'm not sure who made this model.  But, brands like Jada Toys, Matchbox, and Corgi have captured this magical vehicle perfectly, complete with its signature light blue paint, white roof accents, and weathered details that nod to its adventurous fate.

In the film, Arthur Weasley’s enchanted Ford Anglia isn’t just transportation—it’s a rebellious hero. When Dobby seals the barrier at King’s Cross, Ron and Harry “borrow” the car to fly to Hogwarts. The journey turns chaotic as the car malfunctions, crash-lands into the Whomping Willow, and ejects the boys before retreating into the Forbidden Forest.

There, it lives wild, rescuing Harry and Ron later from the Acromantulas with a surprising show of independence. The car’s invisibility booster, expandable interior, and flying charm make it a perfect symbol of Arthur’s inventive, rule-bending wizarding ingenuity. It adds humor, action, and wonder to the story, turning an ordinary Muggle vehicle into a memorable character.

The real-world Ford Anglia 105E Deluxe was a humble British economy car produced from 1959 to 1967. Known for its quirky reverse-rake rear window and tail fins, it offered affordable motoring with a 997cc or 1,198cc Kent engine producing around 39-48 horsepower. Top speed hovered near 75-80 mph, making it ideal for families but far from a sports car. Over a million were built, embodying post-war practicality with charm. J.K. Rowling drew inspiration from a friend’s old turquoise Anglia, transforming the everyday into the extraordinary.

Diecast versions shine with opening doors, hood, and trunk, rubber tires, and accurate badging. Jada’s 1:24 model often includes a Harry figure, while Corgi offers flying display versions with Ron.
