The Hot Wheels Triassic Five Gasser

Hot Wheels Gasser: A Nostalgic Hot Rod Icon

The "Triassic Five Gasser" refers to a Hot Wheels diecast car based on designer Brendon Vetuskey's custom 1955 Chevy Bel Air Gasser, named "Triassic-Five."

The Hot Wheels Triassic Five Gasser

The Hot Wheels Gasser is a die-cast tribute to the rebellious spirit of hot rodding, capturing the raw energy of a classic American subculture. In hot rodding terms, a “Gasser” refers to a modified car, typically from the 1940s to 1960s, built for drag racing’s Gas classes. These vehicles, often vintage sedans or coupes like Willys, Chevys, or Fords, were souped-up with powerful V8 engines, raised front ends for weight transfer, and bold paint jobs. Gassers ran on gasoline, not exotic fuels, earning their name and a cult following for their gritty, grassroots appeal.Hot Wheels’ Gasser models, like the iconic ’55 Chevy Gasser or ’41 Willys, debuted in series like the 2011 Nostalgia line, boasting vibrant liveries, chrome engines, and signature “moon” hubcaps.

Special editions, such as the 2013 Super Treasure Hunt ’55 Chevy with Real Riders tires, are prized by collectors for their detailed craftsmanship. These miniatures replicate the high-riding stance and exposed wheels of real Gassers, perfect for racing on Hot Wheels tracks or displaying as nostalgic art.Real Gassers were drag strip kings, with modified engines delivering 400-600 horsepower, launching from 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds in their prime. Their jacked-up front ends optimized traction, while lightweight bodies and straight-axle suspensions maximized speed. This tiny hot rod is a big nod to rebellion and horsepower.

[This great Hot Wheels is still available on Amazon in Purple. If you are building your collection, check it out the Purple Gasser here.]

Reflecting my Hot Wheels Plymouth Barracuda

If you've ever watched car commercials, you've seen cars parked on mirror smooth floors that reflect every detail of the vehicle.  Amazingly, it's very easy to recreate that look when taking photographs of die-cast cars.  Here are a couple of photographs of my Hot Wheels Plymouth Barracuda hot rod.  The mirrored surface is reflects every detail of the Barracuda in this photo.

Hot Wheels Photography Secret

What's the secret?  It's water.  These photos were taken in a car wash bay.  The roof of my car provides a smooth surface with a sheen of  fresh water from the car wash.  While the car wash provides the shade, the  photography lighting is provided by the sun.

Hot Wheels Photos: Fast FeLion Baseball Car

The Fast FeLion is one of the coolest Hot Wheels models.  It has a long hood that conceals what must be a huge engine.  To me, this Hot Wheels design evokes the long, lean, looks of a Jaguar and combines them with a hint of brutish American muscle car.

The menacing front end of the Hot Wheels

The Fast FeLion profile looks positively Jaguar to me.  It's Jaguar done long, long, long.

The Hot Wheels Fast FeLion is a long, low, and ready to go!

The rounded rear end also reminds me of Jaguar or perhaps older Lexus.  This Hot Wheels favorite has some curves for sure.

When I was a kid, I sometimes thought these custom Hot Wheels were "unrealistic." Now, I know that they truly embrace the dream of car.

Hot Wheels 1976 Greenwood Corvette

The mid-1970s were not good for muscle cars.  High gas prices, gas lines, and emissions standards all conspired to limit the horsepower of cars like the Chevrolet Corvette.  But, the race track was another matter.  John and Burt Greenwood took a specially designed wide-body Corvette to the racetrack and showed the world that the Corvette could still be world class.

Hot Wheels Tooned '69 Chevelle Goes to a Beach Town

The great thing about "Tooned" cars is that their exaggerated features make them very photogenic.  When I stuck my new 2020 Hot Wheels Tooned 1969 Chevelle in my pocket for a quick run down to the Jacksonville, Florida, beaches, I thought I'd might have a chance to take a couple of quick photos.

Here are a couple of photos from near the Jacksonville Beach city hall.

My Hot Wheels Bone Shaker pickup

I recently had a chance to take my Hot Wheels Bone Shaker pickup out on the town.  It's definitely one of the best looking out of the box Hot Wheels cars.

It's no wonder that the Bone Shaker has captured the imagination.  It's been brought into the Forza Horizon 3 video game universe as shown here:

I took my Bone Shaker hot rod down to the Tire Shop and saved $1000 on tires when it was revealed that a 99 cent die-cast car has plastic wheels and tires that never need to be changed.

While I think it looks great as a car that fits in the pocket, the Hot Wheels Bone Shaker has also been recreated for real life car collections.  This article on Sunset Garage covers a real life version of the car.

Hot Wheels Dodge Challenger SRT8 Hits the Garage

Hot Wheels Photography:  Dodge Challenger SRT8

When you've got a MOPAR 6.1 liter Hemi V-8 under the hood, you're going to need to some maintenance.  That's probably why it's no surprise to find this Hot Wheels Dodge Challenger SRT8 at a local garage.  With 425 horsepower on tap, the owner may need to get some tires and brakes, too!

Hot Wheels 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Powered by a monstrous V-8 engine, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 is a thirsty beast.  It gets about 13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 on the highway.  Fortunately, diecast versions are far more economical.  While the Hot Wheels approximately 1/64 scale casting is great, I also had a larger 1/24 scale Dodge Challenger SRT8 from Maisto.  It was nice for a modestly priced model and allowed for the display of more detail.  You can read a review of the Maisto model here.

If you'd like to hear the rumble of the Hemi and see a full-size Dodge Challenger SRT8 test drive, check this video out:

The new Challenger has brought a lot of excitement to the Dodge lineup.  It's retro-design successfully evokes the Dodge Challenger muscle cars of the past.  With all that history and all that horsepower, it's a great model to add to any diecast car collection.

Build Your Own Dodge Challenger SRT8

If you'd like to hand-build your own diecast model of the Dodge Challenger SRT8, you can get a Maisto model in kit form,  One advantage of the kit is that it provides a couple of different wheel styles to choose from and it only has 33 parts.

Hot Wheels Batmobile

For those of us who grew up in the 1970s, there is only one Batmobile: the original 1966 Lincoln Futura-based model from the TV show. Here's a Hot Wheels rendition of the famous car.

Hot Wheels Track Ripper Photos

I recently added this Hot Wheels Track Ripper to my collection.  It is part of the 2019 Speed Blur series of cars.

I'm not sure what inspired this car.  I see elements of a variety of cars.  But, the Track Ripper definitely looks right at home in front of this aging garage.

The paint job on this little car reminds me of the paint found in spy photos of the latest test mules and concept cars from Detroit.  I do think that the blue plastic bumpers detract from the overall look.  But, it's a cool car.

Hot Wheels Muscle Speedster

This is one of my latest Hot Wheels cars.  It's the Muscle Speedster and it has personality in spades.  First of all it's long and low with a chopped roof line and a jacked-up rear.  If the development of full-sized muscle cars would have continued, I hope a real car would have one day looked like this sleek little number.  It's the kind of muscle car that has the sleek look and low roof line needed to compete with the contemporary ricers that are so common today.  The Hot Wheels Muscle Speedster just captures the imagination.

Hot Wheels Muscle Speedster.

One of the coolest features of this car is the transparent hood riser that reveals the powerful V-8 lurking beneath the hood. It's a very cool touch that doesn't compromise the aerodynamic premise of the Speedster.
Hot Wheels Muscle Speedster Transparent Hood

One final aspect of this car that I love is the pointed nose. It evokes the old Trans Am of yore. But, it is even more aggressive as only a Hot Wheels design can be. Overall, this Hot Wheels was a fantastic find!

Hot Wheels Olds 442

This is my Hot Wheels Olds 442.  It's pretty slick in red and gold.  The Olds 442 casting has been around for a long time, but I haven't been able to find another one with a similar paint scheme in online images.  I think this one must have been some sort of premium edition.  It's actually the Hot Wheels Olds 442, specifically the red version with yellow stripes, part of the Muscle Mania 11 series.

Hot Wheels Olds 442

Hot Wheels Details:  This particular car has lots of interesting details like a subtle Hot Wheels logo in the pinstriping just in front of the rear wheels. 442 in the pinstriping just behind the front wheels. It also has 455 C.I. printed on each hood scoop.

No matter what year or edition this car comes from it's a cool part of my Hot Wheels collection and definitely a keeper. This one is actually the Hot Wheels Olds 442 which was part of the Muscle Mania 11 series.

Here it is from the rear.  A dab of paint on the tail lights would really improve the look.

If you've been looking to add this car to your Hot Wheels collection, don't despair.  As of 2025, this 2011 Hot Wheel model Olds 442 diecast is available to collectors right here on Amazon.

Mopar Madness - A collection of Chrysler-Dodge-Plymouth Hot Wheels Cars

Let's get this party started with some Mopar madness.  I recently got these on whim and re-ignited my car collecting passion.  These Hot Wheels make a pretty miniature good car show all by themselves!

Hot Wheels MOPAR Madness!

Update 2025-- [with a little help from GROK]:

Why Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge Cars Are Called MOPAR

The term "MOPAR" is synonymous with Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge vehicles, but its origins lie in a clever corporate naming strategy. MOPAR is a portmanteau derived from "MOtor PARts," coined by the Chrysler Corporation in the 1920s. Initially, it referred to a line of antifreeze products introduced by Chrysler’s parts division in 1937. Over time, the term evolved to encompass all genuine parts and accessories for Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, and later Jeep and Ram vehicles.

By the 1960s, MOPAR became a badge of pride for enthusiasts, particularly during the muscle car era when models like the Dodge Charger, Plymouth Barracuda, and Chrysler 300 dominated drag strips. The term was officially adopted as a marketing brand for Chrysler’s performance parts and service, cementing its place in car culture. MOPAR-branded crates, decals, and high-performance components became synonymous with power and customization.

Today, MOPAR represents not just parts but a lifestyle for fans of Chrysler’s brands. It signifies a legacy of American automotive grit, from HEMI-powered classics to modern Hellcat beasts. Whether it’s a restored 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda or a 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT, MOPAR embodies the spirit of performance and loyalty, uniting enthusiasts under one iconic name.
