Shelby Collectibles Diecast 1967 Shelby GT500

While the 2013 Shelby GT500 was a spectacular car, it was inspired by the 1967 Shelby GT500. Ford and Shelby built it collaboratively. I believe this diecast model in white was actually from Shelby Collectibles which provided Hot Wheels/Matchbox-sized versions of some of the coolest Caroll Shelby Automobiles.

The actual Shelby GT500 debuted as the pinnacle of Mustang performance, boasting a 428 cubic-inch V8 “Police Interceptor” engine, modified with twin Holley 600-cfm carburetors and a medium-rise aluminum intake. Rated at 355 horsepower (likely closer to 400 in reality), it delivered 420 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0-60 mph in about 6.5 seconds and a quarter-mile in roughly 15 seconds. Its fiberglass bodywork, including an elongated nose, functional hood scoops, and a ducktail spoiler, gave it a menacing look, while upgrades like stiffer suspension and front disc brakes ensured it handled as well as it accelerated.

The actual 2013 Shelby GT500 was a beast, boasting a supercharged 5.8-liter V8 engine pumping out 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful production Mustang of its time. With a top speed exceeding 200 mph and a 0-60 mph sprint in about 3.5 seconds, it dominated drag strips and hearts alike. Its aggressive styling—featuring a bold front fascia, vented hood, and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels—paired with a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and adjustable Bilstein shocks, made it a track-ready masterpiece.

In a race, it looks like the modern Shelby GT500 would have beat the vintage model by more than a nose.
