Meeting of the Matchbox Marques - Bentley and Audi

I took a quick snapshot of my Bentley Continental GT and Audi RS6 Avant out on the checkerboard driveway.  Both cars are from Matchbox and look quite good.  In only a few short days, we'll have a non-stop stream of Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and other die-cast cars as this Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Die-cast Photography blog truly gets rolling for 2016!

Matchbox Car Storage Tips:  If you are like me, you probably have a ton of the little die-cast cars underfoot.  Most of my Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning, and Matchbox cars are stored in dedicated cases.  I've got small quantities of cars stashed in Hot Wheels and other car cases.  Still, I'd like to display them better. If you'd like to display your die-cast cars, here are some good ways to store large numbers of your little die-cast cars and mount them on a wall:

The Plan for the Daily Diecast Car Blog in 2016

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  2016 will be an exciting year for the daily die-cast car blog.

After a long stretch of minimal updates, I'm glad to say that I am loaded up with die-cast car photos.  At a minimum, you'll see new die-cast car photos every week.  I'll continually layer in more and more photos in to provide even more new die-cast car photos.  I'm also taking on the challenge and upping my game when it comes to die-cast car photography.  This will be a great spot for Hot Wheels Photos, for Matchbox Car Photos, and other die-cast car photos!  We're taking more and better pictures for this blog.

Finally, about once a month, you'll see a Friday Night feature video at the Diecast Drive-In.  It'll be a chance to catch some short videos of vintage die-cast car commercials.  With luck, we'll even reach our goal of a new car picture every day.  Overall, it should be a fun year for die-cast car photogaphy!

Hot Wheels '47 Chevy Fleetline Taxi for the Holidays!

When it comes to die-cast car photography, I've been wondering if night time can be the right time to take pictures.  Over the past few nights, my subject has been this Hot Wheels 1947 Chevy Fleetline Cab from the 2012 HW City Works collection.  It's bright yellow body makes for a highly visible profile on a dark night.  It really popped with the flash!

This cab is a good reminder for adult Hot Wheels collectors that when it comes to the holidays, party hearty, and enjoy your time with friends! But, if you imbibe, take a cab home!  Take a big cab!

While this Taxi from the Hot Wheels City collection might be a little small for a rowdy reveller, it fits into this Atlanta shopping center scene quiet well.

If you are looking to add it to your collection, it's still available on Amazon, too!

Poolside with my Hot Wheels Formula Street

My Hot Wheels Formula Street is an interesting car. It's silver and slippery and from some angles it doesn't look like much of a car. But, when the sun hits it just right, it takes on a most amazing glow!

Hot Wheels Formula Street
When you look at the Hot Wheels Formula Street, you really wonder about the cars that might have served as an inspiration.  Great racing series like Formula Vee and Formula Super Vee come to mind.

While you might not be able to find this amazing silver car, Hot Wheels Formula Street racers are out there!

It's a nice addition to any Hot Wheels case!

Diecast Car Calendar - 2016

Have you had a chance to preview The Diecast Car Calendar for 2016 yet? This is a re-print of last year's calendar for 2016. It showcases some of my best die-cast car photography and shows cars in a variety of settings. We even took a swamp buggy to a swamp! Whether you buy or not, we hope you enjoy the preview:

In the come year, I hope to take even more photographs and up my diecast photography even further.

M2 Machines - 1968 Mercury Cougar GT-E 428

The hot red Mercury Cougar from M2 Machines is a sweet rendition of a bad ass car from 1968.  It could do 0-60 in 7.1 seconds and a quarter mile in less than 14 seconds.  Only 37 were produced with a 428 cubic inch engine!  You can read more about the 1968 Mercury Cougar GT-E on Hemmings.

The 1968 Mercury Cougar GT-E was also modelled by Johnny Lightning.

But, I love the vivid red of this Mercury Cougar.

The 1968 Mercury Cougar GT-E was a beautiful car.  You can buy an authentic 8 x 10 factory photo from Amazon by clicking on the black and white photo below.

You can also buy a "blueprint-style" art print documenting the essentials of this mighty muscle car.

Hot Wheels 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport

This Hot Wheels car harkens back to the era of big Detroit muscle.  It's a 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport.

By 1972, the big car muscle era was beginning to wane.  The sport engine was a 351 cubic inch Cobrajet engine.  You can read more in this Auto Trader Classics article.

If you need a place to park a red hot Gran Torino like this, I'd choose the Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage.

Die-cast Plymouth Prowler

The Plymouth Prowler was introduced as a concept car in 1993 and first produced in 1997.  Production carried on between 1999 and 2002.  A total of 11,702 Prowlers were produced.  You still see Plymouth Prowlers on the road from time to time.  The idea of a modern hot rod was appealing to many people!

Today, Amazon reveals that the Plymouth Prowler serves as the inspiration for many die-cast model cars.
